Before judging, pause and ask yourself this question

Do you know the story of Stephen Covey on the train? 🚈

His paradigm shift story?

You know, the one in his 7 Habits of Highly Effective People bestseller...

where the kids are running around and making a ruckus while their dad has his head down, oblivious to their behavior...

and as SC, on his way home for an early start to his weekend, is about to let the guy have it, he has the presence to stay calm...

only to find out that man's wife had just died and they were returning from the hospital! 🏥

Oftentimes, we rush to judge others and we assume that people are in full control, and that they're just acting rude, loud, etc. anyway.

But let's remember that we've all had moments where we struggle!

  • We struggle with our emotional health.

  • We struggle with the people around us.

  • We struggle with our finances.

  • We struggle with our physical health.

  • We struggle with our circumstances.

We are constantly struggling! And because of this struggle we don't always have the optimum awareness and sense of how we should be interacting with other people.

So, before we rush to judge, before we assume that we know what's going on in somebody else's world,

Take a moment to pause and ask yourself...

"Is it possible that the person I'm talking to/looking at/being annoyed by right now is going through a difficult time?"
